autism private diagnosis

Anyone with Autism? Trying to get a diagnosis; if your GP refused to even contemplate your having Autism, and?

just told you you have acute anxiety and should move on….would you accept this or go private for a diagnosis?
Thanks for answers, can anyone tell me how many sessions it might take to diagnose Asperger’s with a private psychiatrist

From what you’re saying, it doesn’t sound like autism or Asperger’s to me. I don’t really know why you’re wanting a speciif diagnosis when most people with (any kind of) problems go to doctors with their symptons and the _doctor_ figures out what they should/shouldn’t be diagnosed with.

Anyway, if you really had Asperger’s, you’d have many of the following symptons:
– difficulties with non-verbal communication, gestures, tone of voice, posture, facial expressions
– stuttering and hesitating / difficulty with small talk
– logical/objective view of everything, difficulty seeing how things come across from others’ point(s) of view
– intense (or, obsessional) interest/fascination for a narrow/specific subject area
– knowledge/interest of a specific subject area without regard for it’s proper context
– aloof / deep / up-in-the-clouds way of thinking
– delayed communication (i.e. took longer to talk/socialise/etc)
– hyper-sensitivity (i.e. can’t tolerate loud noise or bright lights)
– ritualistic routines / obsessive-compulsive traits / can’t cope with not knowing what to expect
– odd behaviours/habits/thinking/
– excessive daydreaming / in a world of your own

There are probably some other symptons I missed out but anxiety/depression is often a result of what comes with the social difficulties. People with such symptons struggle, if not fail to fit in – they often experience bullying and rejection and therefore may go through anger, depression, bitterness, social anxiety, and the like.

Bottom line is, if the only symptons you have are social anxiety / depression, then you’d be far better off dealing with those issues as they are. Being diagnosed with something like autism also has it’s drawbacks.

A section on the etiology of autism describes non-empirical hypothesised relations between the children and their social environments as well as data-based hypotheses focusing on organic factors. Its scope encompasses screening, diagnosis, and treatment, as well as cutting-edge theoretical models that may help us to better understand what lies at the core of autistic development. The Neurology of Autism

The Neurology of Autism

$23.56

In Neurology of Autism, Mary Coleman, Catalina Betancur, G. Robert DeLong, Christopher Gillberg, Yoshiko Nomura, Lorenzo Pavone, Martin Ruggieri, and Michele Zappella use the tools of neurological analysis to address a number of the major questions that have arisen in the study of autism. The answers they present have important implications for the direction of future autism research, diagnosis, and treatment. What are the neurological signs and symptoms of autism? The latest information is presented here in an in-depth discussion of epilepsy, cranial circumference, changes in muscle tone, stereotypies, and mutism found in children with autism. In addition, a template is provided for practitioners to follow when conducting neurological examinations of a child with autism. What are the best options for the treatment of autism? The current medical, educational, and alternative therapies are thoroughly reviewed and evaluated. Is autism reversible? The question is explored for syndromic autism, where diseases may have a transient autistic phase, and reviewed in detail for nonsyndromic autism.brIs autism primarily a single disease, as originally described by Leo Kanner? Research presented here suggests that autism is, instead, a syndrome involving many disease entities. Has the incidence of autism been increasing in recent years? A sophisticated, historical review of autisms prevalence rates suggests that it has never been rare. What is the relationship between autism and Asperger syndrome? The latest evidence presented here sheds light on the degree to which both syndromes share more than clinical characteristics; they also have some similar findings in imaging, neuropathological, and genetic studies. Which components of the brains neural networks need to be impaired to cause the appearance of autistic symptoms? Although there are many candidate regions, dysfunction of the cerebellum and its circuits is noted to be of great interest. Student and professional researche@7?\(õÂ?ÿ¾Úx

Succeeding with Autism

Succeeding with Autism

$19.95

‘One day I naively asked Michael what’s it like to be autistic. He replied, ”I don’t know. I’ve always been autistic.”’. -from Succeeding with Autism. Michael is a young man who has succeeded in managing his autism and is experiencing success in life despite a diagnosis that might have predicted only disability and despair. He did not talk in early childhood and displayed the classic traits of a severely autistic child, but he has broken out of his silence to help others to learn from his insights and experiences. An explosion of newly diagnosed cases of autism has resulted in a keen interest in the stories of autistic individuals, and many people are touched by knowing a family with an autistic child. This unique book reveals a silent world through the voice of an insightful, articulate young adult with autism. The book also gives perspectives from Michael’s family, friends and the professionals who have known him from diagnosis in early childhood through to adult, independent life. After each chapter, the author presents ”reflections” that highlight the key issues pertinent to autism and the relevant stage of development. Michael’s story is poignant and moving, and provides information and hope to families of autistic individuals and the professionals who work with them.
