I am taking disability out of payroll deduction and would like to know how it works?

The disability option says it will pay me 66 2/3rd of my wages if I become disabled for some reason. It says I have to be off work for 3 months for it to kick in. I have been paying into this for 14 yrs and never used it or even thought about it until I started having health problems in May. I just had surgery and now will probably have another one in the next month or 2. Do you know how it works and who pays the premiums if I am off work and how long does it pay out?

You should look up your state’s department of Labor website, and find the section on Disability Insurance, as the information may be different from state to state.

Or you can have a chat with your HR representative, as they are probably very knowledgeable about how disability insurance works and how it affects you in your circumstances.
